Founder's Story

The Satya Djaya Raya Foundation (YSDR) was founded upon Osbert Lyman’s vision to preserve and sustain the values of Indonesian culture amid the rapid changes of the modern era. Recognizing the declining understanding among younger generations of the deeper meanings embedded within cultural heritage, he was inspired to establish a platform that bridges cultural preservation with the evolving needs of society.

For Osbert Lyman, culture is not merely a historical legacy or a tradition passed down from one generation to the next. It is a source of knowledge, identity, and values that continues to hold relevance in contemporary life. This belief became the foundation for the establishment of YSDR on March 26, 2012.

Through the Foundation, he developed various initiatives in education, research, arts, as well as social and humanitarian activities, serving as a means to expand public understanding and appreciation of culture. These efforts emphasize the importance of collaboration among artists, academics, communities, and the wider public.

Bali was chosen as the center of YSDR’s activities due to its strong traditions, dynamic arts scene, and collaborative cultural environment. This ecosystem provides an ideal space for fostering dialogue, learning, and the exchange of ideas across disciplines.

To this day, YSDR continues to carry forward the spirit that shaped its founding: to ensure that culture remains a living heritage—deeply understood, continuously nurtured, and passed on to future generations as an essential part of national identity.
